ORIGINAL POST:
The Bensalem Township Police Department and the Bucks County District Attorney's Office are confirming that a homicide occurred at the Sleep Inn on Street Road, Bensalem, in the early morning hours of Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
An individual, identified as a family member, entered the PA State Police Trevose Barracks at 5:00 a.m. He told troopers that Orenthia Upshur, 51, from Trenton, NJ, said to him that he shot his girlfriend, Maisha Coon, 49, also from Trenton, NJ, in a Bensalem hotel. He also stated that Upshur and Coon have been fighting recently and overheard an argument between them on a phone call at 12:39 a.m.
The PA State Police obtain location information from the victim’s cell phone in the area of Country Commons Apartments and then coordinate with the Bensalem Township Police Department and the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office to conduct a large-scale search of all hotels in the area.
PA State Troopers check the Sleep Inn on Street Road and discover that Maisha Coon rented a room at the hotel on January 14th. They enter the room and find the body of Maisha Coon lying on the floor with apparent gunshot wounds.
At 4:30 a.m., Trenton Police received a 9-1-1 call of shots fired near the intersection of Parkside Avenue and Oak Lane. When officers arrived, they heard more shots and then saw an armed subject run into a home on Oak Lane. More shots were fired from inside the house as police surrounded the residence. The Mercer County Tactical Response Team responded, eventually entered the home, and took Orenthia Upshur into custody. Police recovered a gun that is believed to have been used in the homicide of Maisha Coon.
Bensalem Police would like to thank the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, the PA State Police, and the Trenton Police Department for assisting in this investigation.
