PROACTIVE POLICING NETS 4 GUNS AND 4 ARRESTS
The Bensalem Township Police Department employs a proactive policing technique called Data-Driven Approaches to Crime and Traffic Safety (DDACTS). The purpose of the program is to identify and conduct high visibility enforcement strategies to work toward reducing crime, violations and crashes. Simultaneously, it extends resources and improves the safety and well-being of Bensalem Township residents. Our officers are also equipped with the latest technology to detect and deter crime.
Bensalem Police have seen a 75% increase in gun seizures over the past 2 years. We continue to employ proactive details and techniques to get as many illegal guns off of the street as possible. We also continue to stop vehicles for minor traffic violations and enforce the laws of this Commonwealth. Many of our gun seizures are a result of our Patrol Division conducting traffic stops for the enforcement of minor traffic violations.
In just over a week, the patrol division has arrested 4 individuals for illegally possessing firearms. 3 of the arrests were a result of traffic stops and the 4th arrest was made during a proactive hotel detail. All 4 of the individuals were prohibited from possessing a firearm by PA statute. They were charged with Persons Not to Possess, Use, Manufacture, Control, Sell or Transfer Firearms and related offenses.
The Bensalem Township Police Department's core mission is to keep the residents and visitors to Bensalem Township safe. If someone commits a crime in Bensalem, know that we will be utilizing all of our resources to identify, arrest and prosecute them.
Director McVey would like to commend the effort of the Patrol Division as they continue to remove illegal firearms from our streets. Their hard work and dedication has had a positive impact on the community.
