Mayor Joe DiGirolamo and Director William McVey would like to congratulate Lieutenant James McGinty, one of 254 law enforcement officers who graduated from the 295th National Academy Class in Quantico, VA, on September 4, 2025. Internationally recognized for its academic excellence, the FBI National Academy offers a 10-week program that provides participants with advanced training in communication, leadership, and fitness. All participants must have a proven record as a professional within their agency to attend this course. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.

The Bensalem Township Police Department hired Jimmy McGinty in June 2004. Lieutenant McGinty has served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Field Training Supervisor, K-9 Handler, K-9 Unit Supervisor and Trainer, Honor Guard Officer and Supervisor, Patrol Corporal and Patrol Sergeant, and Criminal Investigations Sergeant. He is a graduate of Valley Forge Military College and is a United States Marine Corps Veteran. He received his Bachelor's and Master's of Science degrees in Criminal Justice from Saint Joseph's University. Lieutenant McGinty is also a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command class, where he received the Franklin M. Kreml Leadership Award.  

Lieutenant McGinty currently serves as the Patrol Division Commander. His duties include the oversight of the uniformed patrol division of the Bensalem Township Police Department, as well as the Field Training Officer Program and the Bensalem Police Honor Guard.

We want to congratulate Lieutenant McGinty on his completion and graduation from this prestigious course. His leadership has proven to be an invaluable asset to the Bensalem Township Police Department.  We look forward to him utilizing the skills he has learned to move the department forward so that we can continue to provide residents and visitors of Bensalem Township with Mayor DiGirolamo's high standard of service that they have become accustomed to.
