At 4:18 am on Saturday, May 21, 2022, Bensalem Police responded to a report of shots fired in the 2100 block of Dunksferry Road. Officers immediately established a perimeter and began evacuating nearby residents from their homes. The actor continued to fire shots in the direction of officers who had to take cover. A home across the street was struck with bullets but no one was injured. The Bucks County South SWAT Team was activated along with EMS personnel.
SWAT negotiators were able to determine that the shooters family was in the basement of the home. SWAT members evacuated the family members to safety before attempting to make contact with the shooter who was identified as Jeffrey Weikel, 52 years old from Bensalem. Police made contact with Jeffrey Weikel and were able to get him to exit his home unarmed. He was taken into custody without further incident.
During the investigation, police determined that Weikel fired multiple rounds from an AK-47 assault rifle and a shotgun.
Jeffrey Weikel will be charged with Aggravated Assault, Discharge of a Firearm into an Occupied Structure and other related charges. He will be arraigned later today.
This incident was resolved with no injuries to family, residents, police, fire, EMS or the shooter. This could have been much worse. We would like to commend the quick response of the Bensalem Township Police, Bucks County South SWAT Team and EMS personnel to help resolve this incident quickly and without any injuries.
