BUCKS COUNTY GRAND JURY INDICTS FAMILY MEMBER FOR ASSAULTING AND CAUSING THE DEATH OF HIS BROTHER-IN-LAW
The Bucks County Grand Jury recommended charges of Involuntary Manslaughter, Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person and Harassment after reviewing evidence and hearing testimony presented by the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office about an incident that occurred in June 2022 in Bensalem. The defendant, Antwan McKoy, 37 years old from Maple Shade, New Jersey, turned himself in to Bensalem Police on Friday, May 12, 2023.
The incident occurred on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at Bucks Meadows Apartments located at 3131 Knights Road, Bensalem. The victim, Michael Whispell, was staying with his mother at apartment 5-46. At approximately 11:00 pm, the defendant, Antwan McKoy, arrived at the apartment with his wife, Saketha Jackson, who is the victim’s sister.
While inside of the apartment, Antwan and Michael began arguing. During the argument, both men stood up from the couch. Antwan then grabbed Michael by the neck and began choking him. Michael threw a punch at Antwan and Antwan responded by punching Michael twice in the temple and throwing him to the ground where he struck his head. Antwan then jumped on top of Michael before the altercation was broken up by family members.
Later that evening, Michael could not sleep due to the pain in his head from the assault. Bensalem Police and Bensalem EMS arrived at the apartment. As Michael was being transported to the hospital, he lost consciousness. He was placed in a medically-induced coma and never regained consciousness. Michael died on July 4, 2022 and his autopsy revealed that his cause of death was from complications of blunt impact injury to the head.
Antwan McKoy was arraigned by District Justice Joseph Falcone on the charges recommended by the Grand Jury. He was sent to the Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10% of $5,000,000 bail.
