Red Light Photo Enforcement: As the first municipality in Bucks County and the third in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Warrington Township welcomes state-of-the-art red light enforcement system that will help make our community safer.
Each year, too many families are impacted by crashes caused by people speeding or drivers failing to stop at red lights. Sadly, the victims of traffic crashes are often occupants of other vehicles or pedestrians who were in the area.
Improving traffic safety is one of the strategic goals of the Warrington Township Police Department. After much debate and consideration, we have installed a traffic enforcement system in Warrington Township. This enforcement program is effective at deterring speeding and red light running, reducing crashes and ultimately saving lives.
We realize that having police officers handle traffic enforcement personally is the most effective way to alter driver behavior. This practice will continue. The enforcement cameras will assist our officers in controlling traffic while they are in other areas of the Township performing other duties.
This state-of-the-art system is designed to help us encourage safer driving habits with a consistent presence to reduce red light violations and improve traffic flow. Best of all, it will help us save lives.
The red-light cameras are located at two intersections: Easton Rd (SR 611)/ Bristol Rd and Easton Rd (SR 611)/ Street Rd (SR 132). These two intersections were chosen based on a study conducted by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to include the number of violations, the number of accidents (especially accidents with injuries) and the difficulty to effectively and safely conduct “traditional enforcement” at these intersections. Warrington was approved for this program by PennDOT based on their study and our police department being an accredited law enforcement agency.
This project was approved by the Warrington Township Board of Supervisors in 2023. Please see the attached documents for further information on the program.
