The Newtown Township Police Department wanted to let our community and school parents know that we were aware of social media posts and media attention circulating on “TikTok” and media reports concerning the potential school shooting on Friday, December 17th.
At this time, we would like our community to know there was no credible information to suggest this threat was specific to any school in Bucks County, PA. We were in contact with Council Rock School District Officials, and St. Andrews School to address security concerns and to pass along any relevant information.
The Newtown Township Police Department deployed additional resources, and will continue to conduct additional high visibility patrols at our schools as usual, and will be monitoring similar situations closely with our Federal, State, County and Local partners to ensure for the effective communication of any relevant information for the safety of our schools.
Parents and community members are encouraged to report any suspicious activity in or around school facilities by calling 9-1-1. Parents are requested to speak with your children about the proper usage of social media and to reach out to a school or law enforcement official for any concerns.
To keep your school safe, we need your help. “Safe2Say” something app is available to report individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others, including identifying warning signs and signals on social media. https://www.safe2saypa.org/
There were NO specific threats to any schools in Newtown or Wrightstown Townships and our strong presence was just for the reassurance of our students, staff and parent. We will continue to monitor the reports, and will do all we can to maintain a safe environment for our school children and the school staff.
