Shop with a Cop is a national program pairing police officers with children to afford them a better holiday season. This will be the 4th Shop with a Cop event that Newtown Township, Newtown Borough, Upper Makefield Police and Northampton Township Police Departments will participate in. The program allows children to view police officers in a different atmosphere which helps promote positive relationships.  The Shop with a Cop program is funded solely through the generosity of our local community’s residents and businesses. Volunteers from the community assist with gift wrapping, hosting, and registration.

Police Officers from Newtown Township, Newtown Borough, Upper Makefield Township and Northampton Township Police Departments volunteer their personal time to support the program.  We anticipate over 115 children will participate in the program this year. The program’s participants are elementary students from the Council Rock School District.  These children face life challenges such as a parent losing a job, homelessness, military deployment, economic shortcomings, and other hardships.  Each child is allotted a monetary gift card to purchase gifts for themselves and their family members.

Much thanks to Target for hosting the program and providing supplies. A special thanks to all of our wonderful volunteers, our local community partners and the Council Rock School District for supporting this program.  Multiple police departments will share the same date for their Shop with a Cop (SWAC) shopping at the Target on Route 1 in Middletown Township.  Middletown Township Police have a special not for profit bank account in order to receive tax deductible donations and for the third year have agreed to assist our groups by accepting donations from our donors and tracking them separate from their own account.
