Crisis Intervention Team (CIT)
Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training is a powerful skill set that has recently been added to our tool belt; when appropriate, individuals can get much-needed help rather than going directly into the legal system. These skills enable the patrolman and supervisor to properly assess, evaluate, and refer those suffering from mental illness and addiction to the pertinent facility for proper therapeutic help. Because of the early intervention aspect that CIT provides, the program has significantly decreased the number of repeat calls to specific households and/or individuals. CIT has also been successful in cutting down the number of injuries to police, as well as to those we are sworn to protect and serve. To become CIT certified, an officer must have completed the 40-hour training course.
