After dedicating nearly 35 years of service to the Newtown Township Police Department, Officer Richard Huff retired on December 31, 2021.
In July of 1987, Richard Huff started as a part-time police officer with Newtown Police Department and received full-time status in July of 1988. Prior to being hired by Newtown, Huff was a part-time officer with Langhorne Manor for seven years and rose to the rank of Sergeant there.
For many years with our Township, Officer Huff served as a patrol officer and temporarily served as a Detective within the department from 1997-1999. He then requested to return to patrol duty as he was happiest “working the streets” and interacting with the community on a daily basis. In January of 2010, Officer Huff served as the Acting Sergeant of his squad for close to a year.
Throughout his career, Officer Huff received numerous letters of praise and thanks from citizens along with surrounding police departments for his service and assistance. Kind, respectful, informative, and compassionate are just some of the words used to describe him. He was praised for his calm demeanor and how well he communicated with victims.
On January 28, 2022, Officer Huff had his department retirement lunch at which time he was recognized for his police service by Pennsylvania State Senator Steven Santarsiero. Officer Huff also received a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania House of Representatives Citation from Perry Warren. In addition, Officer Huff officially signed off from the department via Bucks County Emergency Communications and received a plaque from Chief Hearn for his years of service.
Officer Huff was an exemplary member of this department and will be missed. We thank him for his service and wish him a long and happy retirement!
