Barricaded Subject
On Friday, April 07, 2023 in the early morning hours, Newtown Township Police responded to a report of a mental health warrant assistance assignment in the 300 block of West Hanover Street in Newtown Township. A male subject was reportedly armed with a shotgun and refused commands to exit the property. The additional occupants of the home were removed, and a decision was made to initiate a “barricade subject” protocol, where numerous agencies from the Bucks County South-Central Emergency Response Team responded to the scene. Road closures including Richboro Road from Mill Pond to St Leonard’s Road were put into place, and adjoining properties were evacuated for the safety of the public. After several hours of negotiations, the adult male surrendered to police, and was subsequently transported to a medical facility for treatment. Criminal charges are also pending. Road closures were open by 12:00pm. As a result of police action, there were no reported injuries to the offender, the public or to the police officers.
Critical Crash
On Friday, April 07, 2023 at approximately 11:49am, Newtown Township Police responded to the 900 block of Swamp Road for a report of a vehicle and dump truck collision. Both occupants of the vehicle were critically injured, and the operator of the truck received moderate injuries. All were transported to St. Mary’s Hospital by medical personnel. Newtown crash investigators are on the scene and processing the crash scene. It initially appears that speed and failure to maintain lane of travel by the passenger car’s operator, was the causation factor of the collision. Swamp Road remained closed until the truck could be relocated.
