Traffic Safety Message #25-009
Traffic Signal Series – Flashing Red Light
A flashing red light is treated like a stop sign. Drivers must come to a complete stop, check for oncoming traffic, and proceed only when it’s safe to do so.
✅ Stop completely: Even though it’s a flashing red, the rules are the same as for a stop sign—come to a full stop and proceed with caution. Title 75, Section 3114
✅ Observe the right-of-way: Follow right of way rules before proceeding at a flashing red light, yielding to other vehicles and pedestrians as necessary. Title 75, Section 3321
Flashing red lights are often found at intersections where traffic volumes are low, during off-peak hours, or when the light has been reset after a power outage.
DRIVE SAFELY!
