BACK 2 SCHOOL! BE SAFE BE SMART!

Children are starting the 2022-2023 school year the week of August 29th and their safety is important to everyone. Help us keep children in the community safe by watching out for those walking to school or riding the bus.

The New Britain Township Police Department asks that motorists obey existing laws in Pennsylvania regarding school buses and slow down in the posted school zones when the lights are flashing. Officers will have an increased presence in school zones to educate motorist and issue citations for violations when appropriate.

Here are some tips to keep everyone safe.

FOR MOTORISTS

  • Stop and yield to pedestrians crossing at a crosswalk or intersection. Never pass a vehicle stopped for pedestrians.
  • Never go around a school bus that has its lights activated and stop sign out.
  • Always stop for a crossing guard holding up a stop sign.
  • Take extra care to look out for children.
  • Slow down in school zones.

FOR STUDENTS

  • Never walk while texting.  If you need to respond to a text, move out of the way of others and stop on the sidewalk.
  • Pay attention to your surrounds, especially moving vehicles.
  • Look left, right, then left again before crossing the street, only cross at crosswalks.
  • Walk or ride with a buddy.
  • Listen to the school bus driver or crossing guard.

Keep our children safe!  Please take a moment to review the PA School Bus laws in the attached PennDot flier.
