The Doylestown Township Police Department wanted to make residents aware of several calls we received this week regarding telephone scams. The one scam involves someone impersonating an employee with the Bucks County Sheriff’s Department and the other scam involves a “grandparent” being contacted about their grandchild being in an accident.
Bucks County Sheriff scam – the caller will try and scare the person into believing there is a “monetary bond” that needs to be paid immediately or the police will come and arrest the person. The caller will pressure the person to stay on the phone and eventually buy gift cards to pay the “bond”. The calls originated from the following phone number 215-654-3533.
Grandparent scam – the caller pretends to be a grandchild who was just in a serious accident. A person in the other car was seriously injured and the grandchild needs money to help them get out of this situation.
If anyone receives a call similar to any of these situations, you are encouraged to immediately hang up the call and contact your local police department. Your local police department will be able to help you work through the situation.
