On Sunday April 23, 2023 Newtown Borough Police along with Newtown Fire Association were dispatched to Newtown Borough Hall for an oil spill. It was quickly determined the oil spill was used cooking oil from a storage container located on the property of the Brick Hotel. The Department of Enviromental Protection responded along with Newtown Emergency Management. The spill was contained by Newtown Fire Association. Copperhead Custom, an environmental service company, was dispatched for the cleanup. On Monday April 24, 2023 it was determined that the municipal parking lot of Newtown Borough Hall needed further cleaning. Copperhead Custom was again dispatched for the cleanup. The municipal parking lot will be closed until further notice. The cause of the spill is under investigation by Newtown Borough Police Department. Initial findings show the spill was an attempted theft of used cooking oil. There are no dangers to the public from the spill. Please use caution when walking in the area of Borough Hall for the next several days. All precautions have been taken to prevent the spill from entering the waterway
