A 21-year-old man is being charged with six counts of attempted homicide and related charges for shooting at a group of people, including a 4-year-old child, on Nov. 22, 2019 in Bristol Township.
Sysco Schruby, of Bristol, also faces several counts of aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment and two firearms violations, according to a presentment issued by an investigating county grand jury. The charges were approved by Supervising Judge Raymond F. McHugh.
Schruby was taken into custody on Friday, March 12, 2021. He was denied bail by Magisterial District Judge Kevin P. Wagner and sent to Bucks County Correctional Facility.
The Bucks County Investigating Grand Jury also recommended Schruby’s intended target, William Flemming, 28, of Bristol, be charged with carrying a firearm without a license and reckless endangerment after he ran after Schruby and fired several shots in his direction. Flemming was arraigned on Monday, March 8, 2021, and his bail was set at $150,000.
No one was injured in the shooting.
The investigation found that Schruby encountered Flemming at the Rodeway Inn, 1100 Green Lane in Bristol, and the two exchanged words.
Surveillance video showed Schruby leaving and getting into the rear passenger seat of a silver Honda Accord, which then drives past Flemming’s parked green GMC Envoy where Flemming is gathered with his girlfriend, his 4-year-old child and three others.
The video footage then showed Schruby’s vehicle driving by Flemming’s vehicle and Schruby extending his arm out the back passenger window while holding a firearm and firing two to three times at the group gathered around Flemming’s vehicle.
The video also showed Flemming run after Schruby’s vehicle and fire several shots in its direction. Schruby also fired back, the footage showed.
The grand jury presentment detailed testimony from numerous witnesses, including a Bristol Township police officer previously assigned to the Bucks County FBI Violent Gang Task Force who testified witness retaliation played a role in the shooting.
The shooting was investigated by the Bristol Township Police Department and Bucks County Detectives and is assigned for prosecution to Deputy District Attorney Edward M. Louka.
