Tis the season for those “Grinches”, who come out and start stealing packages from people’s front porches. Otherwise known as “porch pirates,” these people will approach your residence and take all those presents that you have ordered online. On December 2nd, PTPD investigated a theft of packages in the 4900 block of Tall Cedar Court. The victim reported over $200.00 of Christmas presents taken. Just so you are aware, “Porch pirates,” often work in teams, driving slowly and repeatedly through neighborhoods. Typically, one thief drives the car, while the other quickly scoops up packages and jumps back in the car for a quick getaway. Some groups will also follow a UPS or FedEx truck through neighborhoods, grabbing packages as they are delivered.
We are asking if you have packages scheduled to be delivered, you have the packages shipped to an alternate location where you’ll be during the day, such as your work address. You can also take advantage of secure location services offered by package delivery companies, or enlist the help from trusted neighbors. And as usual, if you observe any suspicious vehicles or people in your neighborhoods, please contact the Plumstead Township Police Department via 911.
