Joseph E. Hanusey III Law Enforcement Explorer Memorial Scholarship
Joseph E. Hanusey III was first employed by Plumstead Township in 1995 as the township building inspector. He was always enamored with law enforcement and decided to follow his heart and enrolled in the Police Academy in 1996. He was hired by Plumstead Township Police and quickly became a shining star. He was presented with the Top Gun Award for most DUI arrests in the state of Pennsylvania. He was also an original member of the Central Bucks Special Response Team or S.W.A.T. His greatest calling was working with the youth of the township. He loved to stop while on patrol to talk and play ball with the kids. He also ran the Youth Aid Panel, which helped first time offending youth. His pride and joy was the establishment of the Plumstead Explorer’s Post 5700 in 1997.
Officer Joseph E Hanusey III was lost in the line of duty on May 18th, 2002. It is our honor to re-establish the Plumstead Township Explorer Post in his honor by accepting his badge number for the new Post 5708.
In 2015, a fund was created to memorialize his contributions to the law enforcement Explorers and to honor his goal to serve as a law enforcement professional. The Joseph E. Hanusey III Scholarship Fund was instituted to provide scholarship opportunities for qualified youth interested in pursuing a post-secondary education in criminal justice.
