On March 6th, 2023, Corporal Michael Johnson was awarded “Law Enforcement Officer of the Year” by the members of Albert R. Atkinson Jr., American Legion Post 210 for his dedication and commitment to the Plumstead community. Corporal Johnson has worked tirelessly with the Plumstead Township Department since 2009. Before coming to Plumstead Township, Corporal Johnson worked for the Doylestown Township Police Department, beginning in 1980.
Corporal Johnson was instrumental in forming the Bucks County Special Response Team and is a 1997 graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico Virginia. Corporal Johnson is a true leader in policing and an advocate in our community, driving many community engagement efforts throughout the year. The Plumstead Township Police Department takes part in “Coffee with a Cop” events held at local establishments. There, officers speak with community members, engage children and meet with community leaders in a social setting. Corporal Johnson leads this effort, scheduling the venues and locations and setting up the physical events. In addition, each year the Plumstead Township Police Department hosts a Law Enforcement Night, bringing the police department and community together. Residents from throughout the community have the opportunity to interact with officers, see the equipment used by police, look through specialty vehicles and speak with other government service providers. Corporal Johnson always works to make this event special for the community by providing food, water ice and coordinating activities throughout the event. Michael works hard to acquire all of the goods and services through donations from local vendors. This night is always well attended by our community and officers alike.
During the holiday season, Corporal Johnson spearheads our annual food drive, known as “Pack the Patrol Car”. Each year, Corporal Johnson works with our local food bank and shopping outlets to coordinate a day of food donations for the food bank. Each year, this event grows, now being held at two locations in the township. Shoppers donate non-perishable food items, filling a patrol car (or large trailer brought to the location). This event brings police, community and those in need together. Corporal Johnson’s efforts have directly led to the feeding of hundreds of families who are in need in our area. As the year ends, Corporal Johnson brings together officers from surrounding police agencies to take part in the annual “Shop with a Cop” event. In coordination with the Central Bucks School District, Corporal Johnson invites financially struggling families to shop with police officers, picking out gifts for themselves and for their family so that they may better enjoy the holiday season. Corporal Johnson reaches out to our local retail community and receives donations of gifts for children, certificates for food for the family and other “treats” to make the season a bit brighter.
Corporal Johnson spends both his on-duty and off-duty time proving his dedication to the Plumstead Community, working to make these and all of our events successful. Corporal Johnson’s dedication to service reaches beyond the Plumstead Community. Michael is a life-long resident of Quakertown Borough and has served as a member of Borough Council since 2008 where he leads the Health, Safety and Welfare Committee. Michael volunteers his “free time” at numerous community events hosted by Quakertown Borough. In addition, Michael is a member of the Board of Trustees of the St. Luke’s Hospital – Quakertown and Upper Bucks Campuses.
It is with tireless dedication that Michael Johnson serves his community. His roles as police officer, community policing professional, elected official and hospital trustee take his time and energy. Above all else, Michael is a dedicated husband and father, balancing his professional and personal life to prosper in both.
