Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the courage of the first responders who ran toward danger to bring others to safety.
We stand in solemn tribute to the nearly 3,000 innocent victims, the brave firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and ordinary citizens who made the ultimate sacrifice, and the countless families forever changed by that day.
As a law enforcement agency, we also honor the 72 law enforcement officers, 343 firefighters, and 8 emergency medical technicians who gave their lives in service on 9/11, and the many more who have since lost their lives due to illnesses stemming from their heroic response. Their sacrifice is a lasting reminder of the risks taken every day in service to others. We will never forget.
