The Pennridge Regional Police Department was formed in 1992. After much effort, Sellersville Borough, East Rockhill Township and West Rockhill Township joined forces to form the Pennridge Regional Police Department with the goal of providing effective and efficient full time policing to their citizens. At the time the three departments were in a transition period, with the retirements of Chief Crean of West Rockhill and Chief Burke of Sellersville recently retiring. Chief William Heim was hired by the Pennridge Regional Police Commission to lead the new department. At the time the Pennridge Regional Police Department was governed by a three member police commission comprised of one elected official from each municipality.
In 1994, Chief Heim left the department and the police commission hired Chief Ronald Smeal who had recently retired from the Northern York Police Department. Chief Smeal led the department for eight months before becoming the executive director of the Pennsylvania Police Chief's Association in Harrisburg. Chief H. Randall Dilling took over the reigns of the department, after serving with the Millersburg Police Department in Dauphin County. Chief H. Dilling led the department from 1995 to 2002. During 2002 Sellersville Borough left the Pennridge Regional Police Department, to contract police services with Perkasie Borough Police Department.
The Pennridge Regional Police Commission hired Sgt. David Mettin of the Doylestown Township Police Department to lead the department as its fourth police chief, on September 9th 2002. During Chief Mettin's tenure as Chief the department moved from its inadequate facility located in an old farmhouse in West Rockhill Township to a new state of the art headquarters located at 200 Ridge Road in 2011. The building was significant undertaking for the department which resulted in funding from both townships and many outside grant opportunities.
In 2014, Chief Mettin, resigned as Chief and Sgt. Rodney Blake assumed the role as officer in charge until ultimately being promoted to Chief of Police in 2015. Chief Blake is the only Pennridge Regional officer to become the Chief of Police, and not come from an outside department. Chief Rodney Blake served as Chief until 2021 when he retired after 33 years in law enforcement, beginning his career with the West Rockhill Township Police Department.
Chief Paul T. Dickinson was hired as the departments sixth Chief of Police in May of 2021. Chief Dickinson currently leads the 13 sworn police officers and one civilian staff, as they provide 24 hour police coverage to both East and West Rockhill Townships. The police department is still governed by a police commission comprised of two elected officials from West Rockhill Township and one elected official from East Rockhill Township.
