An off-duty Warrington Twp. Police Officer was able to stop a subject from committing suicide recently. Due to the quick action of the off-duty officer, he was able to stop the subject from further harming himself. Police officers on shift responded quickly and were able to contain the subject after he began to walk away. They utilized their collective skill sets for dealing with persons in mental health crisis to begin a dialogue with the subject.
After a few tense moments, they were able to calm the subject and talk him into going to the hospital without using force. The subject was taken to the hospital for psychiatric evaluation and treatment.
Warrington Township Police Officers receive Crisis Intervention Training (CIT), and work closely with Lenape Valley Foundation and other mental health providers to help those in need.
