At approximately 0910 hours on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, Complainant came to Police Headquarters to report being called by someone from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services at approximately 1030 hours on 6/11/18. A female called back shortly after and stated she was "Sgt. Maria from Warrington Township Police" and advised the complainant to call the "United States Citizenship and Immigration Services" back immediately or they could be detained. The person advised them that their citizenship, passport, and driver's license had been compromised. They told them they would need to obtain Google Play gift cards in excess of $6,000 USD in order to correct the issue and schedule an appointment with "USCIS" to get new documents. The complainant obtained the gift cards, then called the phone number back and provided the person with the card numbers.
Residents are reminded that at no time would a government agency ask a citizen to provide credit/debit/bank information over the phone or to obtain gift cards in lieu of payment.
