Tourniquet Save by Officer
On 2 October 2019 at 1707 hours Ofc. Parell #235 was working the 0700 – 1900 tour of duty and conducting a traffic detail at Tenth Avenue and York Road. At this time, he was approached by an adult male stating that he needed help. He exited his vehicle and the male fell to his knees holding his right arm saying that he was injured. The male’s arm and lower torso were saturated with blood. Ofc. Parell immediately notified BCRR to dispatch an ambulance as he began an assessment of the male. Through his assessment he found the male was in need of lifesaving medical care due to the severity of the injury. The male was sweating profusely, and his color was faded due to blood loss. Ofc. Parell advised the male he would be applying a tourniquet to control the bleeding. Ofc. Parell applied the tourniquet and advised BCRR of the tourniquet placement. He continued to provide the male with information as to his medical actions and how those actions would assist him. Ofc. Parell further gathered cloth and gauze to pack and keep pressure on the injured site. The ambulance arrived and upon their arrival the male was losing consciousness. Ofc. Parell assisted the medical personnel in getting the male prepared for transport. Squad then transported the male to Abington Hospital.
On 3 October 2019 Ofc. Parell spoke to the male to check on his medical status. The male expressed his gratitude to Ofc. Parell and for all of the help he gave him for his injury. Ofc. Parell’s professional demeanor and dedication to duty is a credit not only to himself, but to the entire Warminster Township Police Department. His actions have demonstrated that he is truly an asset to this Department and the entire community.
