USPD Turns 75

Today marks the 75Th Anniversary of the formation of the Upper Southampton Township Police Department.  The Department was founded on April 7, 1942 when the Board of Supervisors started the police department by appointing Howard J. Ryan as its first police officer.  At that time, the population of the Township was around 1,314 residents and consisted mainly of farmland.  Today the Township has a population of around 15,121 residents and has 22 full time sworn police officers who work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  In recognition of this anniversary, the Department had special commemorative badges made which were generously purchased by the Upper Southampton Police Benevolent Association.  The officers will wear these badges for the entire year to remember and reflect on the officers who have come before them and served this great community with integrity and respect.
