On Tuesday 1/15/2019 at 0854 hours, officers responded to the First Children’s Academy located at 520 Street Road on the report of a vehicle into the side of the building. Officers arrived on-scene and discovered a black Nissan Altima with severe front end damage and solely occupied by a female operator. The female was found unresponsive by officers and they immediately began performing life-saving efforts on her as members of the Tri-Hampton Rescue Squad and Southampton Fire Company began arriving on-scene to assist. The female was soon after transported by Tri-Hampton Rescue Squad to Abington Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
A thorough investigation into the accident revealed that the operator of the vehicle, a 65 year old Southampton resident, had recently left her residence and was traveling East on Street Road when she had a sudden severe medical condition which caused her to lose control of her vehicle. Her vehicle left the roadway, struck a Verizon utility pole, crossed the front circle of the First Children’s Academy and then came to final rest after striking the building.
The Department sends its thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the victim.
