On August 18th, 2019 at approximately 1731 hours, officers from the Upper Makefield Twp. Police Department responded to the area of Lurgan Rd and Eagle Rd for a vehicle that crashed into a fence and left the scene. While in route to the accident officers were advised the vehicle had parked in a nearby driveway. On arrival an officer found the vehicle parked in a nearby driveway, with heavy damage all around the vehicle, with the driver attempting to change the front driver's side tire. While speaking with the driver the officer could detect an odor of alcohol while observing the driver to have blood shot eyes, unsteady gate, and disheveled appearance. The driver, one Stephen Tuleja of New Hope Pa., was requested to perform field dexterity testing in which he did so. Based upon the totality of the circumstances and Tuleja failing the dexterity testing, Tuleja was taken into custody for the suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol to a degree which rendered him incapable of safely driving a vehicle. Once back the Upper Makefield Twp Police Department, Tuleja consented to a blood test.
