Message to Residents

Dear Residents of Tinicum Township,

In the wake of the the death of George Floyd, I want to reassure you that your officers are in agreement with law enforcement professionals throughout the country who are outraged by the video of Mr. Floyd's death.  Your police department steadfastly believes that excessive force and failure to render aid are unacceptable in law enforcement.  We pride ourselves on the quality of service that Tinicum Police Officers provide.  This level of service is deeply rooted in the relationships that have been cultivated over decades of partnering with our residents to keep our community safe.  Our officers are highly skilled and well trained in diffusing situations which has resulted in few instances where force is required.  In those rare instances that force is necessary, officers are able to draw upon their training to apply methods that are in line with best practices.

Tinicum law enforcement officers take an oath/affirmation to support, obey and defend the Constitution of the United States and of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to uphold, obey and enforce the law without consideration of a person’s race, color, sex, religious creed, sexual orientation, age, national origin, ancestry, handicap or disability. Our community is one that routinely displays understanding and compassion towards each other and we are proud to reflect these values as we carry out our duties.

Sincerely,

Matthew Phelan

Chief of Police
