On July 16, 2018 at 1942 hours, Newtown Township Police were dispatched to the area of the Newtown Bypass and Summit Trace Road for a single vehicle crash. It was reported that the vehicle was flipped over and on fire, and that the driver was still trapped inside. Upon arrival, officers observed a Gray Nissan Maxima on its roof with the engine bay compartment smoking at times. An off duty officer was on scene, kneeling next to the driver of the vehicle, 28 year old John Allen Passman of Pipersville, PA, who was laying on the ground in visible pain. The off duty officer and several witnesses relayed that Passman had admitted to injecting himself with cocaine just prior to the crash and that there was drug paraphernalia still inside the vehicle. Based off of this, multiple witness statements, and vehicle damage, police formed the opinion that Passman did operate his vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance. Passman was taken to the hospital by an ambulance due to his injuries, and charges are pending blood evidence results.
