Newtown Township, Pa - On March 20, 2019, Princeton Police Department contacted the Newtown Township's detective division to report that a subject they arrested for theft by deception and drug paraphernalia had confessed to a retail theft from the McCaffrey’s Food Market in Newtown. Police believed that the subject, 57 year old Joan Brophy of Langhorne, Pa, was responsible for thefts from stores in Doylestown, Yardley, and Princeton as well.
After an investigation, Brophy was charged with Retail Theft and Receiving Stolen Property for the theft within Newtown Township's jurisdiction. On April 11, 2019, Brophy was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Michael Petrucci, and bail was set at 10% of $20,000. She was remanded to Bucks County Correctional Facility.
