There has been an increase in the number of vehicles that have been broken into and items subsequently stolen from the vehicles. These thefts have been taking place at fitness centers, day cares, and parks. The items are commonly stolen are credit cards and blank checks. By the time the owners of the vehicles return to their cars the thieves are gone. A lot of victims park their vehicles in the parking lots of daycare centers, bring their children inside to drop them off, and when they return to their vehicles they realize the car was broken into.
The victims think that by placing their wallets or purses under the seat, covering them with clothing, or other methods of hiding their belongings will keep their items safe. This does not work.
Citizens are reminded not to leave valuables in their vehicles.
