Lower Makefield Detectives Arrest Male for the Kohl’s Smash and Grab
On December 28, 2016, at approximately 0315hrs, an unknown male broke into the Kohl’s Department Store, located at 1641 Big Oak Road, by smashing through the front doors and then smashing the Jewelry counter. The male then stole numerous items of jewelry and citizen watches from the display counter. He was wearing dark clothing and a “hoodie” and mask and used a yellow handle sledge type hammer to smash his way through the store. The male then placed the items into a brown and tan bag and then fled from the store. No vehicle was observed or recorded on the store’s security video system.
Lower Makefield detectives investigated and obtained video surveillance images from the store. This video was disseminated to the public and the law enforcement community.
On January 2, 2017, the Ewing Township Police Department in New Jersey stopped a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Morrisville Borough PA. Officers from the Ewing Township found that the operator of this vehicle was a Jeremy Ruga, a W/M, DOB 7/12/1987.
At the time of Ruga’s arrest, he was in his possession of numerous items of clothing similar to the clothing seen in the video. He was also in passion of a homemade sledge hammer.
Lower Makefield detectives obtained search and seizure warrants for the contents of Ruga’s cellular phone and his apartment in New Jersey. Recovered from the apartment were several of the stolen items.
New Jersey authorities charged Ruga with RSP for the vehicle and false reports. He is being detained in the Mercer County Correctional Facility in NJ.
Jeremy Ruga was charged by Lower Makefield authorities with Burglary, Criminal Trespass, Theft Receiving Stolen Property and Criminal Mischief. The Arrest Warrant was filed and a detainer lodged against Ruga as he remains incarcerated in the Mercer County Correctional Facility.
