30-YEAR-OLD MALE ARRESTED FOR THE MURDER OF HIS MOTHER
On December 8, 2016 at approximately 3:00PM, Lower Makefield Police received a call that a male had just informed a passerby that he had killed his mother. The male was described as wearing flip flops and shorts and walking around the area. Police responded, searched the location, and located the male. Upon approaching and investigating the male, it was determined that he resided at 23 Lower Hilltop Rd, Lower Makefield Township. Police immediately went to that location, entered the home and found the victim lying on the kitchen floor, obviously deceased. The victim was identified as 52-year-old Rebecca Cope.
The male was transported the Lower Makefield Township Police Headquarters for investigation and the home was held as a crime scene. Investigators of the Lower Makefield Police Department as well as detectives from Bucks County secured all the necessary search and seizure warrants and began a search of the crime scene.
The official manner and cause of death at this time has not been determined, however, it appears the victim sustained blunt force trauma to her head and body and several stab and cut wounds.
The male identified as the victim’s son, Zachary A. Cope, was charged with Criminal Homicide and Possession of an Instrument of Crime. He was arraigned at approximately 9:30PM and transported to Bucks County Correctional Facility.
This investigation is ongoing and detectives have returned to the scene to complete the crime scene processing.
