The U.S. Flag Code says “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning”. When an American flag is worn beyond repair, it should be retired in a respectful manner. Boy Scout Troop 67 of Hilltown, PA holds an annual flag burning ceremony to pay respect and properly retire American flags. Boy Scout, Andrew Williams has built a U.S. flag retirement box as his Eagle Scout project that is now housed in the lobby of Hilltown Township Municipal Building. U.S. flags can be dropped in the box during business hours, and Boy Scout Troop 67 will collect them and make sure they are properly retired.
