Recorded Confessions of Criminal Defendants Not Public Record

While the confession statements of defendants Cosmo DiNardo and Sean Kratz were discussed today in open court, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office does not consider either verbatim transcripts or recordings of such statements to be public record, particularly while a criminal case is ongoing.

In response to media requests for such information, our response is twofold: 1) Pursuant to the rules of discovery, our office is obligated to turn such material over to defense counsel in order to enable them to prepare a defense for their client(s) and 2) We as prosecutors are ethically bound to not disclose such material to the general public to ensure the integrity of the ongoing litigation.
