On Friday, July 27, 2018 an off-duty Bensalem Township Police Officer spotted 2 subjects walking through the parking lot of the Acme in Woodhaven Mall. The 2 subjects were observed pulling on numerous door handles of vehicles in an attempt to gain entry. The officer immediately recognized them as the actors from the theft from vehicles and credit card fraud in the early morning hours at Colonial Point Apartments on Lincoln Highway.
Responding officers were able to take Patrick Ivers into custody at the scene but John Palumbo fled on foot. He then entered a silver 2013 Cadillac and led police on a chase. At one point, he rammed a Bensalem Township Police vehicle before exiting the mall area fleeing southbound on Bristol Pike. He eventually abandoned his vehicle at Gatehouse Apartments on State Road then fled on foot again into Salem Harbour Apartments.
A K-9 track was conducted that led police through the Salem Harbour complex, past the pool area and along the river towards the marina. As officers approached, John Palumbo emerged from a thick wooded area and waded into the Delaware River in an attempt to escape. After treading water for a few minutes, Palumbo exited the river on his own and was taken into custody.
John Palumbo was charged with numerous offenses, arraigned by District Justice Wagner and sent to the Bucks County Correctional Facility in lieu of 10%/$500,000 bail.
